Day 3 | CADSE (Critical Architecture Design and Sustainable Environment) Shattola 2026

21.08.26

This session, titled “Good Space vs. Bad Space,” explored how people experience safety and comfort in different gathering places in Sattola. Facilitated by the Paraa design team, participants were divided into two groups to discuss what makes a space good or bad, what activities take place there, who uses the space, and who feels comfortable or uncomfortable.

Participants shared their observations with the larger group. The discussion highlighted that perceptions of safety differ based on gender, time, and patterns of use. For example, spaces that feel safe for men may feel less comfortable for women, especially in the evening.

The session ended with a participatory art workshop facilitated by Mahbub Ratan, allowing participants to creatively reflect on their experiences of neighbourhood spaces.
